BUILDING STRONG GIRLS
Our philanthropic mission is to provide experiences and resources that
build spiritual, mental and social resiliency in girls. We work towards
fulfilling our mission through our philanthropic focus, Building Strong
Girls, and supporting chapters of Girls On The Run.
Our philanthropic focus doesn't just address an existing challenge - we
are building strong girls to proactively provide opportunities for
long-term success by inspiring the leaders of tomorrow.
As women, we are all who we are today because we had a mentor or
coach who taught us what it means to be a strong girl and Gamma
Phi Beta harvests these leadership skills to build strong girls for the future.
GIRLS ON THE RUN
"WE GIVE GIRLS THE CONFIDENCE TO DREAM BIG.
WE INSPIRE THE FEMALE LEADERS OF TOMORROW.
WE ARE COMMITTED TO IMPROVING THE LIVES OF
YOUNG GIRLS BY NOT ONLY BUILDING STRONGER GIRLS
BUT STRONGER COMMUNITIES THROUGH THEM."
Girls On The Run is an organization that is integrated into elementary and
middle schools as an afterschool activity. The girls who sign up for Girls On
The Run participate in learning about physical fitness, healthy lifestyle
choices, tutoring and mentoring and empowerment all while training for a
5K race at the end of the eight week program.
At the Epsilon Lambda Chapter, we build strong girls by participating in a
variety of organizations. We volunteer with our local Girls on the Run
Chapter in Birmingham and host multiple fundraisers throughout the year,
ranging from cook outs to carnation sales to percentage days at local
businesses, in support of our philanthropic mission to provide experiences
and resources that build spiritual, mental and social resiliency in girls.
A Note From OUR PHILANTHROPY CHAIR
"Philanthropy is something that I hold near and dear to my heart and I am so lucky to have found a home in a sorority that values service as well. Labor, one of our core values, is carried out through our work with, Girls on the Run. It is important to serve as role models for our younger generations and to build strong women of character."
Each year, we host our signature philanthropy event, Moonball. This kickball tournament raises money for the local Girls on the Run chapter in Birmingham and involves teams from various campus organizations. In 2018, we raised over $17,500 alone, and are committed to furthering our philanthropic efforts.
We encourage sisters to become involved in many
mentoring and philanthropic organizations on campus
where they will have the opportunity to build strong
girls and become influential role models for young women.
